Ingredients

4 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

1 cup apple cider vinegar

1 cup chicken broth

1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)

8 sandwich buns

Coleslaw (optional, for topping)

Pickles (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Meat: Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it’s well-coated.

Slow Cook the Pork: Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour in apple cider vinegar and chicken broth to create a flavorful steam while cooking. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Shred the Pork: Once cooked, carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a large cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Discard any large chunks of fat.

Mix with BBQ Sauce: Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the BBQ sauce. Let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to meld the flavors.

Assemble the Sandwiches: Toast the sandwich buns lightly if desired. Pile a generous amount of the BBQ pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles if using, and then cap with the top half of the bun.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the BBQ pulled pork sandwiches warm with additional BBQ sauce on the side. Enjoy with your favorite sides such as potato salad or fries!
